Kristen was a volunteer Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) for a teen in Maryland’s foster care system in 2022.
Kristen and her beloved cat, Manhattan, toured nursing homes to spread some feline cheer as Pet Partners-certified pet therapists in 2016-2018.
In 2001, Bernadette earned her BFA in Graphic Design from the University of Santo Tomas. She then worked as a designer for various firms until she moved to UAE in 2007.
Kristen graduated from Georgetown University’s Master of Professional Studies program in Public Relations/Corporate Communications in 2013. In 2012, she traveled to The Hague, Netherlands, to co-present a donor campaign strategy to the Marie Stopes Foundation.
Kristen experienced an 100°F+ immersion in the Arabic language over the summer of 2008.

Kristen served in the DC-based US Department of State’s Iraq Policy and Operations Group in 2010. In this role, she wrote content for the Congressionally mandated Iraq Status Report and supported the official visit of the Iraqi Minister of Communications to Washington, DC.
Kristen and the Healthpoint Hospital team worked closely with the UAE Ministry of Knowledge and Culture Development to promote UAE’s Year of Reading in 2016. They also organized the inaugural Healthpoint Sports Medicine Summit, now an annual event.
Kristen advised two US Senior Commercial Counselors for the GCC on three installments of Discover America, an annual campaign highlighting the best of US-GCC partnerships in healthcare, trade, defense/space and other priority areas in 2016-2018.
Kristen met with inspiring Department of State/USAID grantees implementing democracy and human rights projects in 2012.
Kristen served within the US Department of State’s Office of the Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan 2011-2013. Her swan song: helping to launch WECREATE, the city’s first incubator for women entrepreneurs.

Kristen played a small role in driving relief efforts in Syria as Communications Manager at International Orthodox Christian Charities (IOCC) in 2017. Given its affiliation with the Orthodox Church, IOCC was the only US-based NGO on the ground in Syria at the time.
As a DC-based consultant to the Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), Kristen supported the launch of the Industry Liaison Program (ILP) – just in time for the ILP to coordinate the FEMA’s relief effort to Haiti following the 2010 earthquake.
Kristen led an internal transformation effort from 7500+ miles away in 2021. The grace and good humor of her Kenyan colleagues made it seem as though they were around the corner.
Kristen built a global 360-feedback program for a US Department of State digital transformation in 2021-2022. While this map entry could correspond to many places, a number of Kristen’s project partners were in Warsaw.
